    Award Reciepient 2025-26

Shreya Kumar:  Passionate Bharatanatyam Dancer and Aspiring Pediatrician

Shreya Kumar, a 7th grader and straight-A student, began Bharatanatyam training at age five with Smt. Daya Ravi and later with Smt. Thejashwini Ramarao. Over the past eight years, she has performed at various recitals, cultural events, and temples in Maryland and Virginia. She has also participated in online competitions and received the Student of the Year award from SBAT Alaya Nrithya in 2022 and Best Student award for the year 2025-26.

Shreya played Kaikeyi and Jatayu in the Sampoorna Ramayana dance drama and Sage Vedantha in the dance drama Nabha - The Universe and I. She has been mentoring younger dancers through weekly online practice classes.

Outside of dance, Shreya enjoys baking, Bollywood dancing, and spending time with her family and dog. Her artwork will be displayed at the Delaplaine Arts Center in 2025, and she was a finalist in the Winter Art Competition for Frederick County Schools.

Dance has strengthened her connection to her Indian culture and inspired her younger sister to follow in her footsteps. Shreya hopes to continue dancing into adulthood.

Nrithya Bhumi: The World of Bharathanatyam

“Nrithya Bhumi: The World of Bharathanatyam” is a comprehensive book authored by Vid. Thejashwini Ramarao, released during our Annual Day celebration, Surabhi. This valuable resource is designed to introduce and deepen students’ understanding of the theoretical foundations of Bharathanatyam, an essential component of truly mastering the art form. Richly illustrated with numerous pictures, the book makes complex concepts accessible and easier for students to grasp, supporting visual learning alongside textual explanation.

As part of their learning journey, all students at Padma Paadam School of Performing Arts will follow this book to strengthen their conceptual understanding along with practical training. Nrithya Bhumi also serves as a vital reference for students preparing for various levels of the Gandharva examinations conducted by the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, as well as other recognized classical dance examinations. With its structured content and visual aids, the book aims to guide students through a holistic and well-informed path in Bharathanatyam education.
